U.S. Media Consolidation: The Illusion of Choice by Jason White…

Here’s a Graphic of  U.S. Media Consolidation Entitled: The Illusion of Choice by Jason White, who founded the FrugalDad blog It shows that almost all media comes from the same six sources.

That’s consolidated from 50 companies back in 1983.

NOTE: This infographic is from 3 years ago and is missing some key transactions. GE does not own NBC (or Comcast or any media) anymore. So that 6th company is now Comcast. And Time Warner doesn’t own AOL, so Huffington Post isn’t affiliated with them.

But the fact that a few companies own everything demonstrates “the illusion of choice,” Frugal Dad says. While some big sites, like Digg and Reddit aren’t owned by any of the corporations, Time Warner owns news sites read by millions of Americans every year.

THE BILDERBERG’S CONNECTION TO EVERYTHING IN THE WORLDThe Bilderberg Group is 120-140 powerful people who meet each year to discuss policy. The meetings are closed to the public. This graph we found on Facebook shows the members’ connections to a ton of corporations, charities, policy groups and media. Everyone fromEric Schmidt to George Soros is a member. There are tons of conspiracy theories about the group, including that they control the world economy. We took the findings with a grain of salt–after all, it’s easy to trace an individual to a corporation and the graph doesn’t specify what influence the member wielded. But perhaps it’s a compelling argument for why the meetings should be public.

We Have a Right to FREE Speech! Use It…

All Americans Must Speak Out!

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the timebut you can’t fool ALL of the people ALL of the time.” —-Abe Lincoln

We the Little People Must Unite Together!

WAKE UP. Here’s some food for thought: ‘John Swinton, the former Chief of Staff for the New York Times, was one of New York’s best loved newspapermen. In fact, his peers called him: “The Dean of his Profession”. John was asked in 1953 to give a toast before the New York Press Club, and in so doing, made a monumentally important and revealing statement. He is quoted as follows:’

“There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar weekly salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.”

“The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities, and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”

Unfortunately, it is now 60 years later and the situation is even worse, as most of the main stream media is owned and controlled by a handful of corporate conglomerates. Ironically, The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the U. S. Constitution was supposed to protect infringement on Freedom of the Press but; it is abused now because of censorship by ownership.
